Fact of MH370

Some Fact about the plane 777-200, same as in MH370 :

Boeing's advanced widebody 777 twin incorporates more advanced technologies than any other previous Boeing airliner, and has been progressively developed into increasingly longer range developments.

The 777 was originally conceived as a stretched 767, but Boeing instead adopted an all new design. Notable 777 design features include a unique fuselage cross section, Boeing's first application of fly-by-wire, an advanced technology glass flight deck with five liquid crystal displays, comparatively large scale use of composites (10% by weight), and advanced and extremely powerful engines. The 777 was also offered with optional folding wings where the outer 6m/21ft of each would fold upwards for operations at space restricted airports.

The basic 777-200 as launched in October 1990 was offered in two versions, the basic 777-200 (initially A-Market) and the increased weight longer range 777-200IGW (Increased Gross Weight, initially B-Market). The IGW has since been redesignated 777-200ER.

The 777-200 first flew on June 12 1994, with FAA and JAA certification awarded on April 19 1995. The FAA awarded full 180 minutes ETOPS clearance for PW4074 -200s on May 30 that year.

UPDATE [7:20pm]:

Highlights from MH370 press conference, attended by PM Najib Razak:

1. Vietnam navy confirms no evidence of wreckage.

2. 15 aircraft, close to 10 ships in search and rescue operations.

3. Search area expanded within South China Sea. Help from USA, China, Singapore & Vietnam.

4. Najib says satelite imagery cannot be used as it cannot detect anything below water surface.

5. Aircraft manufacturers and FAA have offered help.

6. Najib says rescue operations will continue for as long as it takes.

7. Najib spoke to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and sent his
condolences as 153 passengers were Chinese nationals. The Premier says China will help in rescue operations.

8. MAS will arrange flights for family members to Beijing if requested, and for Chinese nationals to Kuala Lumpur.

9. Najib requests that the public do not indulge in speculation. "We can't make conclusions, we are investigating all theories".

10. Dept of Civil Aviation received a call when MH370 went missing at 2.40am; Vietnam airport authorities acknowledged the plane entered its airspace at 1.30am before subsequently losing contact.

Boeing Statement on Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370

SEATTLE, March 8, 2014 - Boeing offers its deepest concern to the families of those aboard missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
Boeing is assembling a team to provide technical assistance to investigating authorities.

From [yahoonews]

An official at the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said the plane had failed to check in as scheduled while it was flying over the sea between Malaysia and Ho Chi Minh City.

"Its code didn't appear in our system," Bui Van Vo, the authority's flight control department manager, told Reuters by telephone.

China's official Xinhua news agency also quoted the Civil Aviation Administration of China as saying the flight lost contact while flying through Vietnamese airspace.

No signal had been picked up from the plane in Vietnam, a Vietnamese rescue official said on Saturday.

"We have been seeking but no signal from the plane yet," Pham Hien, director of a Vietnam maritime search and rescue coordination center in Vung Tau, told Reuters by telephone.

Vietnamese and Chinese media had reported that a signal from the plane had been picked up. The reports did not identify what kind of signal.

"The information on local media about the signal near the Cape Ca Mau was inaccurate," Pham said.

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters, "We are extremely worried. We are doing all we can to get details. The news is very disturbing. We hope everyone on the plane is safe."
China is helping to locate the aircraft, Chinese state television said on one of its official microblogs.
